What Social Workers Do
From direct frontline practice to community work and policy development, you can find social workers in just about every workplace. Social workers are regulated health professionals who work with individuals, families, groups, and communities to improve well-being. They often work in interdisciplinary teams to provide services, share resources, improve conditions, and create opportunities for growth, recovery and personal development.
At QCH, our Social Workers play many vital roles and are responsible for various things throughout a patient’s time in the hospital, including discharge planning, resource planning, crisis intervention, patient and family advocacy, short-term counselling, family and caregiver support, system navigation, support with death and dying, and child protection concerns.
All of our Social Workers have a master's degree in social work and are registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service workers. At QCH, any member of your care team, including you and your family, can request to meet with a Social Worker.
