March is Dietitian Month!
Our Dietitian team is a mighty 11 strong! Over the past year they have accomplished many things. Here are just a few:
Provided 8,947 attendance days.
Deployed ENFIT enteral feeding system, which is the new industry standard to decrease the risk of enteral feeding misconnections and disconnections.
Supported a reflex order with the wound care consult to ensure patients have the nutritional substrates to support wound healing.
Continued malnutrition screening education and preparation to move forward with a Medical Directive for the dietitians to diagnose malnutrition.
Secured a $10,000 grant as a Centre of Excellence to further advance malnutrition care at QCH.
Provided group education, tailored diets and ensured appropriate insulin starts and adjustment of insulin dosing as needed for patients with gestational diabetes.
Implemented a total parental nutrition competency program for all Dietitians.
Supported a transition to feed and flush bags for enteral nutrition.
Supported the surgical unit with start of Wired Jaw surgeries with dietitian education and follow up.
Are currently supporting a change in enteral feeding pumps to the OMNI feeding pump.
Supported Mental Health with classes around the impacts of mental health and nutrition for both the inpatient and outpatient program.
