Pharmacy Month

March is Pharmacy Appreciation Month

Did you know that our Pharmacy Team handles every medication administered to any patient (in-patient or out-patient)? Our team makes sure you have what you need when you need it!

At QCH, we have 51 Pharmacy Technicians who perform roles such as purchasing and receiving medications, manufacturing IV medications, and performing Best Possible Medication Histories (BPMH) in the ED, in-patient areas, the POAC, and Heart Function Clinic. They also fill patient-specific medication carts and restock Automatic Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) on-site and at Park Place. Our Pharmacy Technicians ensure that every medication dispensed has a working barcode.

Did you know that our Pharmacy Technicians restock approximately 20,000 medications into ADCs each week and complete almost 1,000 BPMH per month?

There are 20 pharmacists at the Q who verify every medication order for all of our admitted patients, making sure they are the right drug, dosage, and regimen. Some of their roles are to attend rounds, do medication reviews, and dose medications through our scope and medical directives. We also have pharmacists who work with the Heart Function Clinic, Antimicrobial Stewardship and Pain Management.
