Planting a greener future

For the sixth consecutive year, QCH planted trees around the hospital grounds in partnership with Tree Canada.

This year, 20 LCBO staff members volunteered their time to help plant 121 native trees and shrubs.

Susan Sallaj Ginn, Director of Planning, Facilities, Call Centre, Protection Services, Emergency Management and Parking at QCH, began the day by thanking the LCBO volunteers and representatives from Tree Canada.

“It’s not just about the landscaping,” says Susan.

“These green spaces bring joy and healing to our staff, volunteers, patients, and families. Even those who can't leave their hospital bed, when they look out their window, they can still experience the comfort of nature.”

In addition to the therapeutic benefits, there are also environmental advantages. Planting trees is one way we are making our campus greener.

“Trees provide shade,” adds Rebecca, program manager with Tree Canada. “Not only does that mean less watering and mowing – but it means you’re saving gas and reducing noise pollution.”

With each tree planted, we are growing a healthier, more vibrant space for today and generations to come.
