Meet our all-women teams: IWD

Team QCH is comprised of many wonderful women working throughout every single department across our campus.

BUT - did you know some of those teams are made up entirely of women?

This International Women’s Day, we’re shining a spotlight on those all-women teams.

Check them out below!

Executive and Administration Assistants

Our team of Executive and Administration Assistants is made up of all women at QCH – and while they may have the same job titles, no two roles are the same. This team impacts virtually every part of the hospital, from clinical services and patient care to corporate services and human resources.

Pharmacy Technicians

QCH has upwards of 50 Pharmacy Technicians working within our Pharmacy - making them the largest team made up of only women at the hospital.

This week, our Pharmacy Techs are taking over our Instagram page and taking you behind the scenes to see the work they do on the daily. Follow along at @QCH.Ottawa on Instagram.

Social Work

We’re proud of being able to support people through very difficult times in their lives as well as working together to get patients back into the community safely.

What are we proud of?

Even though we are a small group, we have a big voice! We are a close group of women, sharing lunch every day.  We communicate as a group every day to share patient care stories and experiences, to talk about process improvement and to just chat to improve our overall well-being.  We are more than colleagues- we are friends.

What is something people may not know about us?

Our primary role in acute care is evaluating and treating swallowing and communication disorders but we are also trained in the assessment and treatment of cognitive difficulty.  We also enjoy daily professional interaction with many teams throughout the hospital including Diagnostic Imaging, food and nutrition services, portering services and all professions on each inpatient unit.

Behaviour Emergency Response Team (BERT)

Kelly MacGregor, Christine Cook, Juliana Ha, Melissa Laroche

Our Behaviour Emergency Response Team (BERT) is an award-winning, person-centred approach to avoid Code White calls. It is used to de-escalate the behaviours of older persons with cognitive changes. For 2023, this female nursing-led initiative has their sights set on adapting our successful BERT to a sub-acute model population for Park Place.

Nursing Professional Practice

The nursing professional practice team is a dynamic group of nurse leaders that work collaboratively with nurses and other interprofessional team members to support safe, quality, and innovative practice. NPP has an educator in every program of the hospital, we deal directly with patient care, we orient each and every nurse who comes into our organization and maintain skills, program related competencies, policies, practice and all while having fun!

Call Centre

When you call QCH, chances are you’re talking to someone from our Call Centre team. They’re the ones on the other line of the phone, connecting you with the information you’re looking for. This team is also well-versed in emergency response, calling all emergency codes across the hospital and directing teams to where they’re needed most. Did you know? This team handles upwards of 20,000 calls per month, sometimes answering 1,000 calls in one day.
