QCH receives Trailblazer Award in Geriatrics
QCH innovations reach the world stage!
Two of our nursing-led innovations for improving the quality of care for older adults have been recognized for a national award that celebrates clinical teams who change the landscape of healthcare. These innovations include the Behavioural Emergency Response Team (BERT) code initiative and the work of our ALC Nurse Manager, Christine Cercena for a collaborative approach to managing responsive behaviors on our ALC Unit. The purpose of the BERT is to respond urgently to requests from point of care providers when they have a geriatric patient with responsive behaviours.
The concepts were submitted to the NICHE world conference in the US which resulted in an invitation to present both initiatives. NICHE stands for Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders. This award is presented in partnership with the NICHE and the ABIM Foundation to celebrate leadership in improving quality care, promoting evidence-based medicine.
Congratulations to the QCH’s Geriatric Nursing and Geriatricians teams!
