Respiratory Therapy Week

Happy National Respiratory Therapy (RT) Week!

Did you know?

  • QCH has 45-50 RTs who work in one or more areas within the hospital.

  • RTs are like the “firefighters” of the hospital. They can be called to any location in the hospital for patients in respiratory distress.

  • RTs attend high-risk neonatal deliveries.

  • QCH is a training site for third year Algonquin College RT students. Students complete clinical rotations in ICU, ED, Wards, Birthing Unit, Special Care Nursery and the Cardiopulmonary Department.

  • QCH has about 3 Anaesthesia Assistants (AA) working in the OR. The AA’s have completed additional didactive and clinical training to increase their scope of practice so that they can work in conjunction with the Anaesthesia care team, assisting with difficult cases, providing relief for the Anaesthesiologist, among many other functions.
