Life and labour at QCH

Mirela Groombridge is an Administrative Control Clerk in the Childbirth Unit at Queensway Carleton Hospital. But her connection to the unit goes beyond her job.

In August of 2019, Mirela gave birth to her daughter, Hailey, at QCH. Four years later, in August of 2023, Mirela returned to QCH to deliver her son, Matteo.

“I feel incredibly privileged to work in the Childbirth Unit. The nurses were constantly looking out for me and taking care of me throughout my entire pregnancy.”

Mirela says her daughter, now four years old, is over the moon excited about her new sibling. “She is constantly reminding us that she is a big sister."

Accompanied by adorable family photos, Mirela and her husband Chris sent their thanks to the team at QCH. “We wanted to thank Dr. Lal, Dr. Shepherd and all the wonderful nurses that helped deliver our son, all the staff in the Childbirth Unit, and the staff at QCH for the exceptional care we received while in the hospital. A HUGE thank you to Nurses Carly and Hanna that helped us in the OR, and Nurses Tanya, Lynn and Tracey that helped us Postpartum.”

A special thanks went to the Administrative Control Clerks—especially Tanya and Megan—who made Hailey feel so special when she came in to meet her baby brother for the first time.
