Happy Physician's Day!

In recognition of National Physician’s Day yesterday, we reached out to our physicians to share the things that have made them smile, laugh, or take pride in over the past year. Here is a great snap shot.

Dr Lisa Rosenkrantz

“I started my family practice career at the QCH in October 1981. I also worked at the Grace Hospital doing obstetrics. I remember being part of many round tables about what the new (QCH obstetrics) unit should include, what the rooms should be like and the traffic pattern. The most important part of that transfer from the Grace to QCH was to maintain that collegial warm atmosphere between the obstetricians, the family doctors, the clerks and staff. My highlight moment was when I was asked by then Chief of Staff, Ron Vexler, to give the opening speech for the Grand opening. It was well received, as we transitioned from sadness at the loss of the Grace to the excitement of the QCH Childbirth unit. I am grateful to still be able to catch my babies, including the babies of the babies that I have delivered. This would not have been possible without the continuous learning, striving for excellence and support of the staff, the doctors, the support staff, those that keep all the rooms clean, and those who run the blood down to the lab. Over the last 42 years, the people have all changed. The essence that came over from the Grace, (besides OR equipment that still has the Graces’ engraving on them) is still standing, and I am proud to a part of this amazing group.”

Dr Marion Malone highlighted the work of the entire team of physicians supporting the surge in mental health admissions, with special thanks to the psychiatrists: “This small but mighty team has pulled together and done a remarkable job supporting each other through this challenging time. This resilience-in-action has been an accomplishment indeed!

Drs. Cortel-Leblanc and Weatherhead led the QCH ED development of a Medical Hold Policy for patients deemed incompetent to make an informed decision. The first known policy of its kind, it aims to improve patient safety by reducing the risk of unsafe elopement.

Dr. Winckel and his daughter pose with medals.

Dr. Winckel: “In January 2023, I completed a full marathon, bringing together 3 passions: family time, running and Disney World. Our first family trip to Disney since 2019, I ran this race with my daughter Nicole. It was her first Disney marathon and marked 20 years from when I ran my first Disney marathon. While the start of the marathon with more than 12,000 runners at 5AM was exciting, being at the finish line with medals around our neck was truly the high point of the day.”

Dr. Joseph Pollard: “While doing my master's in healthcare administration, Dr. Falconer helped with teaching about QCH's new strategic plan. Other students, who had never had the opportunity to meet with a hospital CEO, were extremely grateful for Dr. Falconer's openness and kindness. “
