Sylvia Pearce - 2023 Tom Schonberg Leadership Award

Meet Sylvia Pearce, recipient of the 2023 Tom Schonberg Leadership Award.

This award is named after out late CEO, Tom Schonberg. Tom was a remarkable person who truly cared about this hospital and this team. He has had as lasting imprint on this organization. This award is presented each year to a QCH leader who makes a positive and lasting contribution to our culture by modeling the way; relating to others in a humble, authentic manner; developing and bringing out the best in people; and actively pursuing the continuous improvement of QCH and the broader healthcare system.

Sylvia is a Director who has only been with QCH since 2022, making it even more impressive that she has had the kind of impact she has had. Her staff have commented on how frequently she reaches out to front line workers directly to get their opinion and to seek suggestions for improvements to patient care. She is easy to talk to and has a true open-door policy. She has empowered her managers to make positive changes. And she encouraged her team to explore lots of improvement that enhance patient care, like the Get Moving Team, the sub-acute referral process, the P&P for A4. Frontline workers have said they feel they are being listened to and actively engaged in changes that impact their work and the care they provide.
