An awesome team of silent partners
Earlier this year, the Employee Appreciation Incentive allowed managers to thank their staff and recognize them in a way best suited to their team. Manager Kim Larose created a special pin to recognize her team’s unique work. Each pin is accompanied by a card:
“It is with immense pride that we recognize you and how truly amazing our department is – we cannot thank you enough for your hard work and dedication.”
A team of silent partners
Patient Registration, Health Records and Decision Support are often silent partners in many projects and the daily running of the hospital – even though they have significant roles in planning, implementation, execution, and support. Their work is consistent and trusted, often leading to their status in supporting roles.
Different from the Champion of Care pins
Many members of these teams wear their years of service pins with pride. Some wear pins from their work on the vaccine clinic – donated by Dr. Nowodworski, while others wear “Thank You” pins gifted by retired nurse Sheila Armitage. Those nominated for the Champion of Care program also wear their coveted pins. These pins inspired Kim to source a department-specific recognition pin which was presented to each team member in a simple, meaningful presentation. This initiative will include new staff as they join these teams in future.
Here is a little information on each of the teams and their roles at QCH:
Patient Registration
Open 24/7, Patient Registration serves many patients across the hospital. They register over 190,000 patients each year! Included in this team is “Bedboard” which assigns inpatients to the most appropriate unit within the hospital. Patient Registration also supports outpatient in-person clinics, including ED, MNB, Mental Health, Day Stay, Endo, Cysto, Amb Care clinics, Ortho, TJAC, Physio (OT/PT), as well as the Moodie Covid Care and Testing Centre, with over 100 phone and virtual visits registered each weekday.
This is a diverse group with many different backgrounds assembled with one purpose: To serve our patients accurately, professionally, and efficiently with empathy.
Health Records
The Health Records team organizes and manages paper and electronic data formats and strives to ensure that the data is accurate, complete, accessible, and secure in a timely fashion. Their quality clinical data work informs policy decisions and helps determine funding for future planning to serve our community. The team takes pride in knowing the important and positive impact they have on our patients. The hardworking team is constantly team building as they make their way through the many changes that have come their way.
Decision Support
The Decision Support team enables the hospital to monitor performance through scorecards and key performance metrics, which helps inform decision-making within and outside the hospital. They are true team players, always ready to help and support one another. Decision Support has a great understanding of health information and is an expert in helping to identify, interpret, and disseminate information needs for multiple programs and services within the hospital.
